As an admitted Attorney specialising in Insolvency Law, Dawie was fortunate early in his career to be exposed and gained experience in some of the country’s largest and most complex insolvencies and corporate distress restructurings. He is a professional individual with a wealth of experience in Liquidations, Insolvencies and Business Rescue matters.

Dawie is a Director of Independent Advisory (Pty) Limited and currently a  Director of the South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association (SARIPA).  Dawie too has attended many conferences of INSOL INTERNATIONAL, a world-wide federation of national associations for accountants and lawyers who specialise in turnaround and insolvency. He is also a member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).

Dawie recently acted as Business Rescue Practitioner of the highly publicises and successful restructuring of the listed African Bank Investment Company Ltd (ABIL) and other high profile matters especially in the mining sector, including the single largest debt restructuring yet done in Business Rescue, with the restructuring of R6 Billion Rand’s debt in the matter of ASA Metals (Pty) Ltd.

At the very outset of the change of legislation in South Africa in 2011, when the Companies Act 71 of 2008 came into Law on 1 May 2011, Dawie and his colleague Hans Klopper were at the forefront of restructuring companies under in terms of the newly promulgated Chapter 6. Since May 2011 Hans and Dawie, attended to by far the most restructuring matters in South Africa, some of which were highly complex and unprecedented in South African law.
